Dishoom - Covent Garden (Food Tour Gang)

Our food adventure group, ‘The Food Tour Gang’, decided to tackle an Indian Cuisine/ restaurant that's always buzzing with queues. With high hopes and empty stomachs, we were ready to see what all the hype was about!

Here's the lineup of what we ordered to share:

  • Garlic/Plain Naan

  • Masala Prawns (1)

  • Lamb Samosas (x2)

  • Paneer Roti Roll (think of it as a wrap)

  • Chicken Biryani

  • Okra Fries

  • Chicken Ruby

  • Keema Pau (bread rolls stuffed with meat)

Even though I'm not a fan of prawns or shellfish, the group’s favourite was hands-down the Masala Prawns. For me, the Chicken Ruby stole the show. Paired with naan bread, it was perfectly spiced—not too hot, just right.

The atmosphere and decor were a big part of the charm. The place is great for date nights or group outings, and our booth even had a fan, adding to the Wes Anderson-esque vibes.

Now, let's get to the food. Was it mind-blowing? Not really. Was it good? Absolutely. But I think you're paying more for the location and ambience than anything else. I've had better and more authentic Indian cuisine in London, but I’d still recommend trying it out once. And if someone invites me back, I’ll definitely go, though I probably wouldn’t make a special trip on my own.

The Chicken Ruby was juicy, flavorful, and generously portioned—always a plus. I also enjoyed the Keema Pau. Those little bread rolls stuffed with warm, savoury meat make for a fantastic starter.

So, while it might not have been the best Indian food I've ever had, it was a solid experience overall, especially for the vibes and the company!
