Forts Café, Margate, Kent: A Cozy Gem with Delicious Comfort Food

Hot Chocolate & Grilled Cheese
The hot chocolate was enjoyable but arrived lukewarm—definitely ask for it extra hot to savor it properly before it cools. The grilled cheese, however, was the star of the show. Loaded with just the right amount of cheese and complemented by perfectly caramelized onions, it hit all the right notes. The crunch of the toast was spot-on, and they were generous with the fillings. Paired with a side of tomato sauce, it was not only delicious but also great value for the price—filling and satisfying.

French Toast with Poached Pear
The French toast, served with poached pear and rosehip custard, was beautifully presented and tasted divine. The rosehip custard elevated the dish, adding a unique flavor that tied everything together. While it’s on the pricier side, the thoughtful additions justify the cost. It’s a treat worth trying, especially if you appreciate intricate flavor combinations. The feedback from my group was unanimously positive.

Atmosphere & Service
Forts Café has a welcoming vibe, with both indoor and outdoor seating options offering a lovely sea view. The space is bustling, yet service is quick and the staff are friendly. The Margate location is charming, but note that the Broadstairs branch serves a slightly different menu.

Final Thoughts
We loved the experience so much that we came back twice in two days! Whether you're craving a hearty grilled cheese or an indulgent plate of French toast, Forts Café delivers on flavour. I’d highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area, but be sure to visit the Margate location for the dishes mentioned above.
